Thank you for visiting my website. My name is Jim Hart and I am the founder of The Hart Family Law Firm. I first opened my own law practice in Florida in 2005, and relocated to North Carolina in 2009. I am licensed to practice law in both North Carolina and Florida. My small family law and divorce practice is based in Cary, North Carolina – but I accept cases from clients throughout Wake County, including Raleigh. I have intentionally limited the size of my practice so that I can provide personal attention to each and every one of my clients. In addition, in an effort to cut costs and expenses for clients, I run a paperless office – all of my files are stored electronically with several backups in place for added security.
I offer a divorce assessment for clients – which involves a comprehensive examination of their unique situation, child support, alimony and property distribution calculations, and an unlimited amount of time to discuss strategy and answer client questions. Check out my Divorce Assessment page for more information. During this Assessment, I will also review a number of different ways to resolve a divorce, including collaborative law.
My law practice is founded on the core principle that litigation should be a last resort in any dispute. To that end, I believe in utilizing alternative dispute resolution methods such as collaborative divorce, mediation, negotiation, and, in some cases, arbitration, to help resolve legal disputes. My goal is to build relationships with clients and attorneys alike, with an eye towards solving my client’s problems rather than creating “issues” to be litigated. Deeply rooted relationships are the key to my business model, and these relationships help to create and foster win-win solutions for the parties involved in a dispute. However, if a case should require litigation, I will zealously advocate for the legal rights of my clients.
I am committed to forming an organization where client satisfaction is fundamental. I believe that to achieve such a high level of satisfaction, the client must always be fully informed about their case and the choices available to them.

Personal Interests
My wife, Donna, and I moved to North Carolina in 2009 looking for a better quality of life to raise our children, which right now consists of our infant son Charlie, our 3 dogs and our 5 lazy and spoiled cats.
We love North Carolina, and are proud to call this area of the country home. When we’re not working, we enjoy taking advantage of the many outdoor activities that are available, including hiking, golfing and tennis. We also enjoy scuba diving, walking the dogs, and visiting with friends.
